Some Notes on Newton Running Shoes

I thought I would do a quick post on some recent experiences of mine with Newton Running shoes. I had given Newtons a test run a while ago, and written about the experience. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they did not interfere with my technique, despite being rather bulky shoes. However, I still preferred my Vibrams, and I didn’t see any advantages to buying a pair of Newtons especially given the high price tag.

One woman I coach started out her training in Vibrams. Unfortunately, after a couple of months, she felt that they were just not the right shoe for her. She wanted or needed more support. I reluctantly recommended that she try a pair of Newtons. Long story short, she loved them, and continues to use them for training. Another woman I coach just never seemed interested in minimalist shoes. Even after I explained that with her technique, she really didn’t need bulky running shoes. Given her reluctance to run in minimalist shoes, I again recommended that she try Newtons, and she also loved them.

Perhaps there is more to Newtons than meets the eye? I still prefer my Vibrams, but my limited experience with Newtons has been quite positive so far.  Does anyone else out there want to share their experiences, both good and bad, about Newton Running shoes?
