Is It Really Over?
One of the Boston Marathon bombers was killed early this morning. A second bomber was captured this evening, and the sense of relief here in the Boston area is palpable. I've been listening to these events unfold over the course of the day, and at this moment, I'm listening to people celebrating over the radio. I understand they are celebrating mostly out of a sense of relief that this senseless violence is ending, but I just don't feel like celebrating. These events have just been too sad and tragic.
People have been killed, and grievously wounded. Many lives have been shattered. Are we ever going to understand what causes people do these things, and how we can help them before they reach the point of wanting to lash out? I don't think this is over, I thinks it's time to start asking hard and maybe painful questions.
